Creating a Balanced To Do List

Workshop: Leaders Daily Dozen / Balanced To-Do List

Overview

In the words of the German philosopher, Immanuel Kant. “Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life.” To organize our life, we need planning. Left unguarded, our life would be like an untethered kite - pushed and pulled in all directions.

People become leaders when they know how to organize their life. I was a journalist for several years. Thanks to the opportunities afforded by my profession, I had known - and spent time learning about - a number of leaders. These were well-rounded personalities who enjoyed all dimensions of life. They knew how to get results but without hurting relationships. They had their to-do list but also their to-be list: time for spiritual practices and inner balance.

Leaders Daily Dozen is an attempt to distill the essence of leadership to-dos. It is a framework to ideate like leaders when it comes to organising our day. It is a set of 12 pointers (intriguing phrases) that help us come up with to-do items concerning all core dimensions of life.

Objectives

With the workshop I try to share the logic behind these 12 universal and proven approaches to professional, managerial, and spiritual growth - and inspire you to organize your life like a leader.

  • Self-employed and professionals
  • Management students

A special takeaway

You will get a copy of The Organizer Inc, a book on the 12 Essential To Do Ideators for Career / Business Success, Good Relations, and Spiritual Progress. The Organizer Inc is a fictional story of a CEO grooming an entire organization towards holistic growth on the strength of the 12 to-do categories.

5 Frequently Asked Questions

1) We already have many frameworks / ideators related to To-Dos, why Leaders Daily Dozen?

There are many frameworks for evaluating to-do items or tasks but not much on generating to-do ideas themselves. For example, if you take the Eisenhower’s ‘Urgent / Important Matrix’, it is meant to evaluate and prioritise activities. However, Leaders Daily Dozen is designed for us to come up with ideas for the to-do list.

Further, Leaders Daily Dozen orients us towards specific outcomes (results, relations, and spiritual progress). It also specifies a few to-do items (example: reflecting on / recollecting the events of the day) that are essential for the desired outcomes.

2) How does Leaders Daily Dozen ideator look like?

The ideator is a set of suggestive phrases and questions that prompt us to come up with ideas under 12 to-do categories. Click here for Leaders Daily Dozen in three pages.

3) What are the promises of Leaders Daily Dozen?

When used with clarity, Leaders Daily Dozen can help us conceptualize to-do items for results, relationship building, and spiritual progress for inner peace.

4) Is the ideator prescriptive? Does it ask us to take up specific activities?

The answer is yes and no. Yes, because Leaders Daily Dozen asks us to come up with ideas for certain aspects (say, relationship building). No, because it does not tell you what to do or how to do. For instance, you are asked to have time for spirituality - but it could be prayer or volunteering. The choice is yours. No two To-Do lists can be the same.

5) Is it about organising 24 hours of our life?

No. This is not about making life busy and mechanical. Rather, it is about making life meaningful, free, and happy. You will still do so many things that do not fit into any of the 12 to-do categories. Personally, I believe that we should keep at least 40% or more of our time unstructured. This is important to be accommodative of surprises.

1 Frequently "Unasked" Question

1) What about you? Are you rich? Do you have lots of friends who matter? And, are you spiritually evolved and enjoy peace of mind all the time?

In one sentence: I am none of these. I am yet to make my first million. I belong to the middle income category - currently. I have a big circle of friends but I do not know how close they are to the Prime Minister. And, my “enlightenment” is unreliable. I experience mood swings like all the time.

I conduct this workshop because I believe in the ideas. I bet my life on them. I need the inspiration of Leaders Daily Dozen myself. And I trust that it will help you grow - in all directions. Let’s grow together. :)
